- Fly down McLennan Park’s toboggan hill.
A former landfill-turned-outdoor adventure area, McLennan Park is widely regarded as the best toboggan hill in the Waterloo area. There is truly something for everyone, including off-leash dog parks, hiking trails, and toboggan hills. The best part is that you can watch the sunset with unmatched views of Kitchener- Waterloo from the top of the hill.
- Snowshoe, Ski or Ice Fish at Shades Mill Park
Shade’s Mill Park is a popular winter destination. Experience the winter magic at Shade’s Mill Conservation Area, which has the most extensive trail network of any Grand River Conservation Authority winter trail. It’s easy to make a day of it with 10km of pristine paths to hike, cross country ski, as well as a snowshoe loop. Another popular activity in the park is ice fishing. The reservoir is ideal for those who have always wanted to try their hand at ice fishing, with day huts available to keep you warm and toasty.
- Partake in public skating
Skate at one of Kitchener’s, Cambridge’s, or Waterloo’s outdoor rinks. You could also visit the Preston Towne Centre Skating Rink. There are many outdoor skating opportunities scattered throughout the cities, keep an eye on your local park and downtown core.
- Pinehurst Lake Cross-Country Skiing
Pinehurst Lake in Cambridge is a great place for a cross-country adventure. Glide along the groomed and tracked cross country ski trails, with the option to rent equipment on-site. If you prefer to stay on flat ground, there are numerous options for winter hiking and wildlife viewing.
